Post Production Essay Question

Explain how your post productions skills have developed over time and how this has contributed to your media production out comes

Post production is very important in making sure that a product looks professional and creative. Thought out year 12 we used the Adobe Premier Pro as our editing software. We practiced by making a simple 20-second-long video, with straight cuts trying to edit the clips to the beat. We also replicated the pre-made music opening, ‘JUNO’, as this helped us understand about the scribble effects and matching the effects to the original. The video looked at a very beginner’s standard yet it was a great editing learning curve for myself and group members. This was as well as our final year 12 task to produce a film opening. Although successful, didn’t use a colour corrector and therefore all of the shots where blurred and dark, making it hard to make out and appear unprofessional. We have now moved on from a film opening with 20 shots to a fast paced up beat music video containing over 100 shots. As one of the main editors of our music videos I had a key part in its development. To practice, we produced a banana phone video, pushing us to use different effects and camera techniques such as a clone shot and I learned how to use the track matte key tool to show images through letters, giving the audience a different way of viewing our footage. I also edited the picture quality by using three way colours correct to sharpen all of our footage.

My development from simplistic software’s to more complex creative designs is clear over the two years. In year 12 I used Adobe Premiere, as well as using PowerPoint to edit some of my pictures, which was a very basic method of producing and presenting my ideas and products. In year 13 I used many different software applications such as Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, Slide share, Emaze and Wix to create a cross media package. These enabled me to adapt the presentation theme and text fonts. Furthermore, adding illustrations and images.

In Year 12 I did use Wix to create a basic website, however had a very simplistic design and very few pictures. Therefore, I did not encorperate post production appropriately therefore, in year 13 I made sure to learn more about Wix so that my skills and techniques could develop.

In year 13 however I used Adobe Photoshop to edit my photographs which I took during the course. This included photos for the magazine article, digipak and for the website. This made the images incredibly more presentable and created more impressive outcomes. We used Photoshop to make the digipack, to include synergy between our products, we used the pastel pink colours as well as included balloons in our pictures. This also ensured we could make a connection with our target audience.

For our artist website, we were able to create a professional website from scratch, with interactive sections, this was great to advertise our artist and publicise what their music is all about. As well as the website, I also used different social media to increase my advertisement, I created a Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter account for my year 13 music artist. I think this was a really good way to advertise, this is because my music artist was a young and up and coming artist, the audience was young adults. Young adults are the audience who would use social media the most and therefore he would get a lot of attention from his chosen audience.

I improved my skills in year 13 for my music artist across my cross media promotional packages. My skills when using digital technology really improved, this is because I had used them a lot more, and therefore had had more practice. It allowed me to be able to understand what was needed to create a successful music video. I knew how to edit the colours, brightness and the contrast to improve my video. I did this to make my music video seem a lot more fun and professional, which I wanted to do. I did a lot of research on the genre of my music video which was pop, to see the type of editing other music videos did. Most of them did subtle transitions. I did a lot shorter shots, whereas in my film opening they lasted longer, this is a typical for a music video.

My post-production skills dramatically improved from year 12 to year 13, from the use of practicing. I was able to edit a lot better and understand what methods were successful to edit and promote a music video and film opening.

Digital Technology Essay Question

Explain how your skills in the creative use of digital technology developed over time

The use of digital technologies has played a massive part in our media products. My technical skills and my ability to produce innovative film opening, digipaks as well as websites and a music video has improved massively over my two years of study. Without the digital tools like premier pro and YouTube these products would not have been possible.

Blogger was the main source of publicising our work. We used it as a digital note book to keep track of all of our work. From year 12 to now the detail and quality of my blogs has drastically improved as I not include more information about what each post is representing as well as posting more useful and creative presentation tools. Last year I would have posted 10 pictures onto the blog and you would have had to scroll down the page to view them all. I have recently produced a photo album containing all of our photo shoot images by using amaze, a better way of presenting my work. In addition to emaze I have endeavoured into the use of Prezi, survey money and also virtual videos. In year 12 I struggled to use all of these software’s as they can be confusing to use. But I stuck at it and I am now able to produce creative animations to present all of my work. For the evaluation, I produced a video presentation with the use of a green screen and many other editing tools such as the titles on premier pro to illustrate what was being spoken about.

Last year when producing our Juno prelim and our final film opening we used a Sony HDR digital camera. It was useful at the time although it wasn’t of a very good quality and also didn’t have many technical advances that we could adapt to our needs. We evolved from this to using the iPhone 8+. This was because had a secondary 56mm-equivalent “telephoto” lens system and you could also use the 28mm-equivalent wide-angle lens for photographs which were the added features that we used. We used these features for the multiple photoshoots which took place whilst producing our music video.

I also used adobe Photoshop. In year 12 it allowed us to produce a film poster, yet I wasn’t aware of how to use the brightness tools and therefore the image appears dark and blurred. Recently we have created a tour poster as well as a digipak and magazine article. Both of these products are bright and colourful. I also used the sharpen tool to make the image crisp and professional.

Furthermore, our editing software was premier pro. In year 12 we were first introduced to premier by practicing with a dancing animals task, learning how to import footage and match it with a sound track. We then moved onto a Juno task where we attempted to duplicate a film opening. This was successful as it gave us knowledge of how to use the titles and also how to use specific effects to distort the shot, scribble effect. Our final film opening worked well as it clearly portrayed a story. Yet the editing wasn’t very advanced and therefore it didn’t have a sharp professional vibe. We have evolved from this unprofessional product to an amazing bright and colourful music video. We used three-way colour correct to enforce our pastel pink theme and this then linked our digipak and website together. For the evaluation, premier pro also allowed me to be inventive with how I presented my answer. The transition effects meant I could make the titles slide in and out, cross fade between two images and zoom in and out when needed. Making it a fun and interactive presentation.

To make our websites we used the internet program wix.com. This allows you to create a website either from scratch or to use a template on a number of categories. For the film opening, we had a simplistic layout with minimal information and images. This suited the specification yet when producing the music video website, we were able to excel in all of these areas. We used a template of a music artist as our website was for a music artist. We then used the tools given to make the website our own and unique to our artist. We added a clear colour scheme to relate t to our band image and incorporate our other products. We were also able to play around with the layout of the website and include extra pages full of information, all thanks to the wix software.

Throughout the two years I have learned multiple new skills and techniques and I know many more ways in which I can express my creativity.
